Die Wahl des 5. Landtags Brandenburgs fand auch am 27. September 2009 statt. Die Landeshauptstadt Potsdam ist in 3 Wahlkreise eingeteilt. Während die Wahlkreise 21 und 22 völlig in Potsdam liegen, gehören zum Wahlkreis 19 neben den Ortsteilen Fahrland, Groß Glienicke, Marquardt, Neu Fahrland, Satzkorn und Uetz-Paaren der Landeshauptstadt Potsdam noch die Gemeinden Michendorf und Schwielowsee sowie die Stadt Werder aus dem Landkreis Potsdam-Mittelmark.
